Freiha traces Dmit to Aramaic-Syriac for 'the likeness, the similar,' whence the Arabic 'dumya' (effigy), possibly meaning an idol. Ancient remains have surfaced by chance when digging the land, including sarcophagi, building stones and pottery shards predating the Mamluk devastation of the region.
Old remains have surfaced by chance on Dmit’s land when the ground was dug — sarcophagi, building stones and pottery held to pre-date the Mamluk devastation of the region.

2010 the visit
A National Geographic writer who visited in 2010 found that the staff had diverted part of the river through a small hydro generator.
The same writer described the river by the camp as jammed with fish, with a zip line for visitors.
In 2010, taxis would not drive the last stretch to the camp. The writer was met in Dmit by a pickup instead.
In 2010, Animals Lebanon brought volunteers here, an hour's drive from Beirut. After a vegan lunch they hiked through the forest and jumped into the river.
